Southeast Exposure Outdoor Adventure Center in Ketchikan Alaska

Working for Southeast Exposure

  • New guides need to be available May 1 for the season and a minimum of 21 yrs of age.

  • Guide candidates have extensive experience in two of our three areas - zipping and climbing, paddling or biking.

  • Dock representatives are outgoing, consistent and fit

------------------------------------------------

If you are considering applying you need to know the following: We have been a small family run business since 1986 and we are located 14 ½ miles north of town in Clover Pass. We moved to our current location at 37 Potter Rd. in 2003. Our site is on five acres including waterfront. We do four tours: Tatoosh Islands Sea Kayaking, Eagle Island Sea Kayaking-both single and double, Clover Pass Bike, Ropes and Zipline (and Climbing Wall).

We do all kayak, bike, and ropes course training in house. We require you to arrive with an eight hour certification in Advanced First Aid and CPR at minimum (no online certifications) and experience of guiding or teaching in at least one area. Guides participate in an intensive one week in house training for all tours. We have many returning guides each year, a good number of them are local Ketchikan people.

Our trips range from 3 hrs to 4 ½ hours for the guests, but for you, you work 2-3 trips per day back to back, and you will spend 2-2 ¼ hours with each group of guests. The season is from May 1 - September 26. We are flexible in these dates for some people. Hope this helps!

Things that we are looking for in a guide or a dock representative:

You can think on your feet. You take initiative and pitch in, can work as a team, and follow routine procedures.

You can provide a guest experience of safety and confidence building and provide accurate natural history information.

You are on time in your personal obligations.  You occasionally volunteer your time.

You have physical stamina, fitness and no potential physical limitations. You can lift and carry 50 pounds.

You have unflagging politeness, honesty, sense of humor and respect for all others.

You love the outdoors, and don't mind the rain, and you acquire good raingear.

You have absolute respect for your surroundings, equipment and the environment.

We interview via phone calls starting in January and we begin checking references, so we need a current resume and two work related references. We will be listening to you and considering the above - that is, your apparent quality of character.

We have housing available for reasonable rates. A $300 advance in rent is required.
